Description
The United States player will herd hostilities out of the path of progress using any means at his disposal. As his settlements spread west, they will be followed by the encroachments of miners willing to brave a grisly death for the prospect of riches. Although more than a few will lose their scalps, each will be replaced by dozens more attracted by the lure of gold. To protect these intrusions into Indian land, the Army will wage campaigns of attrition and tirelessly sweep the nomads from the plains in an uneven battle of resources and technology. The rails of the Iron Horse soon bridge the continent, with the buffalo hunters in its wake. The fate of the Indians is thereby sealed as the once abundant buffalo is hunted to the brink of extinction. With their food supply exhausted, tribe after tribe is forced to concede their way of life. Each tribe which passes from the scene to be ``civilized'' on reservations brings statehood closer to the frontier.
The role of Indian players eventually changes from one of feared warrior to gallant survivor. When a military victory is no longer possible, you must negotiate a Treaty which will extract the most Victory Points from the US.
